Clift San Francisco is diligent in using green practices and has been awarded the TripAdvisor GreenLeader Silver level as a direct result of the Clift Cares program. Clift Cares is a comprehensive Sustainability Program that is curated by a Green committee dedicated to reducing the hotel’s carbon footprint. This includes the following:

Energy Management:
* Majority of guestroom lighting is energy efficient (LED or CFL)

Indoor Air Quality:
* All cleaning chemicals used in housekeeping were replaced by healthier, environmentally safe “Aquarous Ozone” in 2015 (replaces glass cleaner, all-purpose cleaner, carpet cleaner and deodorant)

Water Conservation:
* All toilets, faucets and showers are fully retrofitted, reducing water usage by 40%
* Stay Green: guests can opt out of housekeeping service for a F&B credit).

Reduce Reuse Recycling:
* Recycling increased from 31% in 2015 to 75% in 2016
* All e-waste disposed of by certified e-waste recyclers
* Monthly donations to local charities for linens, terrys, equipment, supplies, etc
* Partially used guest amenities (soap, shampoo, conditioner) donated to “Clean The World” (5.000 soaps and 8.000 shampoo bottles)
* Paper use cut by 50%
* All to-go containers are bio-degradable and compostable

Education and Awareness:
* Hotel employees support “Save The Bay” with quarterly Bay Area wetland restoration volunteer work
* Monthly Recycling tours at SF recycling plant for employees

Urban Bee Sanctuary & Cocktail Herb Garden:
In 2015, CLIFT welcomed ten queens and 100.000 bees to their new rooftop “suites.” Local bee keeper Roger Garrison positioned the box hives to mimic the city grid below, in representation of the tiny SF metropolis of miniature sky scrapers, with the gold dome of City Hall peeking out from behind the hives. Today, the CLIFT honey bee population has reached 200.000 and annual production of up to 15 pounds per hive of delicious, local honey. Harvested honey is also being used creatively by CLIFT’s Executive Chef, Thomas Weibull. He’s added the bounty to innovative dishes in the hotel’s iconic Redwood Room, and Head Mixologist Tony Kim has incorporated the honey into two signature cocktails.
